Lavender and Spittlebugs!

What is that white foamy stuff on my plants??

Spittle bugs will appear in early spring on your lavender plants and are detected by the white foamy spittle, which is emitted as camouflage!  Your plants may appear unsightly but the damage is minimal.  Damage may result in twisting or deformation of the leaves and stems.  Washing the spittle bugs off the lavender plants may only be a temporary solution, and could result in too much moisture in and around your lavender plant.

We don't worry about them in our fields, because as the weather warms the spittle bugs will disappear before the flowers bloom.

So relax about the white foamy stuff and look forward to the lavender season to come!

Lavender Plants Are In!

We've just brought in some lavender plants for the early gardeners out there! Spring is a great time to plant lavender, as the lavender plants will have all spring and summer to get established before cooler weather comes. Later in the spring, or early summer, we'll bring in more lavender plants and more lavender varieties. But for now, here's what we have at the lavender farm:

4" pots: Grosso, Royal Velvet, Melissa, Otto Quast, and a 3" Regal Splendor. We also have a 1 gallon Hidcote.

We're also have a few indoor lavender plants, the variety "Pinata."

Find more information on growing lavender plants on our page: Growing Lavender

Read the full blog post for more information on these varieties...

Lavender and Spittle Bugs

Welcome back to the fields and gardens of Jardin du Soleil.
The sun is out, the weather is warming, and our fields of lavender are putting on shades of purple!

But what is that white foamy stuff on my plants??

Greening up at Jardin du Soleil!

Hello from the gardens of Jardin du Soleil!

Spring is really working it's magic out here!  Our lavender fields are greening up nicely, the weeding requires much persistence, and the mowing is every few days!

You may remember we recently started perennial seedlings in our greenhouse.  They have since sprouted and are adding to our garden perennial boarders nicely! With that in mind perhaps you are interested in growing your lavender from seed.  If so, be sure to visit our Lavender Plants category online and pick up Lavender Seeds.

Be sure to take advantage of our online promo going on through May 31, 2010, and receive FREE SHIPPING on all online orders of $50 or more.
